So I know this is really old news (I remember reading something about back in late 2001), but I'll tell you all anyway.
There is a phenomenal instrumental rock band called Explosions In the Sky. They once put out an album entitled "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever" (I just got this record, it's great, that's why I'm writing about it). Here's where it gets interesting. This record was released about a week before the September 11 attacks. In addition to the band's name and the album's title there are two other strikingly coincidental/prophetic links to the incident. The first being the artwork. On the front there is a drawing of plane, inside the booklet it says "This plane will crash tomorrow." The second is the spoken word lyrics of the song "Have you passed through this night?"
This great evil - where's it come from?
How'd it steal into the world?
What seed, what root did it grow from?
Who's doing this?
Who's killing us, robbing us of life and light, mocking us with the sight of what we mighta known?
Does our ruin benefit the earth, aid the grass to grow and the sun to shine?
Is this darkness in you, too?
Have you passed through this night?
Ok I am really bad at this thing. I tell you that I have an interview and ask for your prayers and then don't even have the decency to tell you that I got the job until I'm 3 weeks into it. It's really great and I'm learning a ton, so thanks to everyone and sorry about that.
I mentioned last time that it was hot down here, which at the time may have seemed accurate, but now that 85 degree weather sounds so nice. It was 105 yesterday! that's like 40-41 for you celcius kids. but right now a thunderstorm just started. what's going on here. this is southern california. get it right... I saw An Inconvenient Truth a few weeks back and I am so fully convinced that Al Gore is right.
I am utterly scared and frustrated with the current state of our world, not just the climate change, I am so dissapointed in American politics and international relations. I have always had some progressivist political tendencies, but at the same time I had some hope that the "system" would essentially work. Now that hope is fading daily as read the news.
On Thursday the House voted in support of Israel 410-8 in a non-binding resolution. The resolution served no other point than to tell Americans on which side they need to be in the current dispute. The wording of the resolution was such that the congress had to vote positive, it included basic things like the right for Israel to exist and the condemnation of "terrorism." I probably would have voted yes for those things too, but the point is that all the general public will see is that there is a dispute between Israel and some other countries and the US is in support of Israel. And, what is probably much worse, even admist claims that we won't be sending troops to Lebanan, the US has now expidited a rather large shipment of arms to aid Israel. Meanwhile, the UN is arguing that Israel's response has been "disproportionate" and a "violation of international humanitarian law."
a good friend of mine from college is in what can essentially be defined as a protest punk rock band out on the east coast, I think this new song of his does a good job of conveying the emotion of what I am trying to get at. the video is live and really dark, but the audio is ok...
1. I just had a job interview at World Vision International for an accounting position with their VisionFund microenterprise division. I think the interview went well and I am really hoping to hear back soon. You don't understand how ridiculously perfect this job would be for me... Any prayers on my behalf are appreciated, as always.
2. I'm so excited for this weekend. I'm heading up to Lake Tahoe to stay with some old friends, some I haven't seen for almost 2 years. I missed the Tahoe trip last year for my trip to China, so it should be an amazing time to catch up.
Oh man, it's been a while since this thing was current...
So I re-started school, and that went more or less well. I have finished two classes so far: Primary Health Care (for developing countries) and Spiritual & Ethical Foundations. Both were quite thought provoking. The internet makes for a strange classroom, but the discussions proved interesting nonetheless.
I just moved to Anaheim, CA, with one of my very best friends. The apartment is nice, the neighborhood is alright, if you consider being trapped at the near-center of world's largest suburban sprawl "alright." I am currently looking for a job, which, by the way, is a terrible process, especially because I really have no passion for any of the jobs for which I am applying. I wish I did, I wish there were jobs that were meaningful and interesting for the common bachelor of arts. I suppose if there were, I wouldn't be back in school.
What else... I got a new car, well not really new: '03 Hyundai Elantra. rocking the gas mileage. I also just spent far too much money furnishing my newapartment, because I too have "become a slave to the Ikea nesting instinct."
